Switch TypeThis describes the function of switches that turns tools on and off.
Lever and paddle allow users to hold the switches down with their fingers while gripping the tool, making them more comfortable for extended use than non-locking switches.Safety levers lock off until users engage a secondary switch to unlock the lever. Trigger (typically found on rat tail tools) allows users to hold the switch down with their index finger.
Bi-Metal & ThermistorBi-metal and thermistor sensors detect ambient air temperature. They are located within the thermostat enclosure.
Hydraulic Air CoilHydraulic air coil sensors more accurately detect ambient air temperature than bimetal and thermistor sensors. They are located outside of the thermostat enclosure, directly in the airstream.
Remote BulbRemote bulb sensors detect the temperature of ambient air, liquid, or gas. They are located at a distance away from the thermostat, so they are good for applications where the controls must be placed outside of the sensing area.
PlasticPlastic enclosures are corrosion-resistant, so they are good for areas exposed to water spray and high humidity.
AluminumAluminum enclosures are lightweight and corrosion-resistant. They are stronger than plastic enclosures but not as strong as steel or stainless steel enclosures.
Steel & Stainless SteelSteel enclosures provide the highest strength of all enclosure materials. Stainless steel enclosures are corrosion-resistant and stronger than plastic or aluminum enclosures.
Open on RiseOpen on rise switches turn on the heating system when the temperature falls below a specified level.
Close on RiseClose on rise switches turn on the cooling system when the temperature rises above a specified level.
Open/Close on RiseOpen/close on rise switches turn on the heating or cooling system accordingly when the temperature falls or rises above a specified level.
Air-Coil & Bimetal Sensor Temperature Controls
These temperature controls have an air-coil or bimetal sensor that monitors and regulates the ambient air temperature. Controls with a bimetal sensor have the sensor inside the enclosure of the thermostat. Controls with an air-coil sensor have the sensor outside the housing of the thermostat. The sensor is directly in the airstream, so it gives a more accurate reading than bimetal sensors. These temperature controls are ideal for commercial and industrial HVAC applications where the temperature needs to be monitored at the location of the thermostat, such as commercial refrigeration, agriculture, and heating and cooling installations.
